Bridge build

Two teams build half a bridge each, only meeting at the join.

8.4 trust impact 8–24 Medium energy 75 min

An exercise about hand-offs. Each team builds one half of a bridge from cardboard, tape and rope — but they can only see their own half until the very end. The bridge has to span and hold weight at the join.

How to run it

  1. 1

Two teams in two separate rooms (or behind a screen).

  2. 2

Each team gets identical materials and the same brief: bridge a 2m gap, hold a 2kg weight.

  3. 3

45 minutes to build. They may send written messages between rooms but no visits.

  4. 4

Bring both halves out. Try to join them. Hilarity, then learning.
